Our Program

At Oceanic Gymnastics Centre we believe that a child must have fun and truly enjoy what he or she is doing to learn successfully.

Our instructors are trained and registered with Gymnastics Australia and provide an enthusiastic teaching environment in which each child learns and develops at their own rate. All classes are age based and coincide with the NSW school calendar and term dates. Children who have a birthday throughout the term remain in their current class for the remainder of the term. They are eligible to move to the next class for the following term.

Gym Fun Program (45 minutes)

Designed for Children 2-5 years of age however we also welcome children younger and older if they would like to participate.

This 45 minute class begins as a parent assisted program where an adult is expected to actively participate with their child until the age of 4 years and 6 months. Parents of children over this age may still enter the gym as needed.

Our Gym Fun program is a great developmental starting place for all children. Even though it is a gymnastics class, we incorporate all ball sports, Tennis, Golf, Football, Soccer, Cricket, Baseball along with plenty of other activities for fine and gross motor skills. Children will learn basic and complex locomotor skills such as jumping with feet together, hopping, skipping along with animal walks such as bear walks, bunny jumps and crab walks. We also incorporate hand eye coordination and spatial awareness activities all placed strategically within our circuits each week.

Children will be balancing on the beams, hanging and supporting their body weight as well as swinging and climbing on bars, jumping on the trampolines and learning forwards and backwards rolls on floor whilst also beginning handstand and cartwheel work. We make use of tunnels, slides and soft play items along with having fun in our ball pit and foam pit.

Our Gym Fun Program is a great way for your child to make friends and learn how to be with other children and there are plenty of opportunities to learn about sharing and taking turns. Many parents also make friends with the other parents in the class.

Our classes are structured with a large focus on safety. Children must stay with the group at all times and only use equipment the teachers have demonstrated for them. This is how children learn and practice boundaries that can carry over to situations outside of the gym such as stopping at a road. We teach how to safely get down from items that are high off the ground such as using our motorbike landings or safety jumps, along with being able to stop when on a trampoline.

Children work their way through our 3 skill booklets over their time in Gym Fun and receive a certificate upon the completion of each book. All booklets include gymnastics skills, safety and developmental skills.

Our Bronze Booklet is for our new or younger members and includes many of the basics that are important to master. Whilst working on the Silver booklet, parents help prepare their child for independence, by encouraging their child to sit, listen and watch their coach demonstrate the circuit and activities. The goal is to remember what to do on each station and then follow the direction of the circuit by looking for the arrows. Parents assisting this age group keep their child on track, correct as needed, help with the challenging skills or technical corrections and are nearby to catch them if they fall. The one on one work parents do at this time is crucial. It is also a great bonding time for parent/grandparent and child, to have their full attention whilst having fun together.

Children who are taking the Gym Fun Class without their parent's help (must be over 4years, 6 months) will be working on their Gold Booklet. This booklet will set them up to be equal or ahead of their peers in a Junior Class. There are no skill booklets in a Junior Class. Children who have completed their Silver Booklet, who wish to remain with a helper will also be working on their Gold Booklet.

Classes have a maximum of 8 children per coach and we aim to have two classes running simultaneously in order to split children by age for each class. Some classes may have smaller numbers and therefore may have a mix of ages. Coaches will help and challenge each child at their own rate, and in line with their booklets. Parents may ask for siblings to stay together regardless of age and may also let us know if you are attending with friends who you would like to be grouped with.

The fees are charged per 10 week term, paid upfront for the entire term to hold your place in the class. The cost will vary, by a prorated amount depending on the length of the term due to holidays or public holidays.
